Inside the House of Two Rooms

(for Aunt Rose)

there’s so much
to contemplate
all the bygone misery, love

outside, the red paint
peels, more and more
each year, the forgiving

wood bends, splits
icicles hang on
the windows like bars

inside, the aftermath
of every argument
of every love

remains
