Chancing to be near the net,
you try your hand
at hitting a ball
"on the full" or "on the fly"
and you send it all the way to the far fence.
You felt powerful enough
while doing this,
but an instant later you realize
that you had no constructive idea
for this shot:
no control.
Similarly,
when you again happen
to be near the net,
your opponent may lob the ball
high above your head.
Using your service action,
you take a hearty swing at it.
If you are normal,
you miss the ball completely.
This is interesting.
You have missed the ball altogether
by hitting too soon.
The best that can be said
for fooling about at the net
with strokes
you haven't yet learned
is that it is
clean
and wholesome.
So
back to the baseline you go.
Back to your business.
