Rio
is published twice yearly on the WWW. It is exclusively an
electronic publication. Since 1997, Rio has presented
the work of both widely published and relatively unknown writers
and artists. Intelligent work, albeit of artificial (yet original)
or natural origin, is cheerfully solicited.

Rio is biannual, summer and winter. Check the site
for updates. Also check POETS
& WRITERS Magazine and the annual POET'S MARKET.
Guidelines
for Submission
1. Rio is
free to anyone who has an internet connection.
2. Writers
may submit clean typed copies of poetry (four-five poems suggested),
creative non-fiction prose (under 10 pages), or books reviews of
poetry (500-1500 words) to the below address, accompanied by a self-addressed
stamped envelope. Put your name and address or email address at
the top of every page:

as of April, 2003: Rio is actively soliciting submissions from
younger writers for the new STUDENT SECTION. Student writers of
college undergraduate or high school age should address their
manuscript ATTN: Susan Pilewski, Student Editor. Click here
for a flyer: please feel free to print this out and share it with
younger writers.
Unaccepted entries
without the SASE will be discarded.
Artists may
submit scannable prints, photographs, or drawings, under 8" by 11".
They should not be marked or folded. Artist's name and address information
should be clearly marked on the back of each work.
Artists whose
work does not fit into any discernible category should query first.
3. Electronic
submissions may be sent via e-mail to
rioarts@lycos.com . (NOTE THE NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS.) If attachments are
used, please sent text (ASCII), Rich Text Format (RTF), or Microsoft
Word files. .Any other type of attachment may have to be discarded
without notice. Sorry.
4. Submissions
may be sent using a Microsoft Word or text (ASCII or RTF) on a floppy
disk. Send to the above P.O. box address. If submissions are
accepted, an electronic copy (disk or e-mail) will be requested.
5. Send a self-addressed stamped envelope with sufficient postage
to cover the cost of returning ALL your work if you wish to have
work returned. If sufficient postage is not provided, all unused
work will be scrapped.
5. The size
of Rio is limited by the disk space of the server; please
keep this in mind. Large submissions will be accepted few and far
between. But, if you think it's good, send it anyway!
